Post Admirals Concert Featuring Rodney Atkins

Rodney Atkins
I'm a hockey fan, but here in Milwaukee we only have the Admirals, a minor league team. Still, the Bradley Center is a great place to watch a hockey game. The Admirals have been doing some interesting promotional events over the years. One regular post-game event is to have a concert. This Friday night Rodney Atkins will perform after the scheduled hockey game.

When I first heard this, I thought "Who is Rodney Atkins?" One mouse click and I was impressed. This guy had four number one hits on his 2006 album, and the song "It's America" from his 2008 album made the top spot as well. This is not some washed up country wanna-be.

The Admirals had the Dropkick Murphys perform post show in 2009. They do come up with some pretty amusing ways to get butts in the seats.

Live Show at Milwaukee Bucks Games?

The Milwaukee Admirals had the Dropkick Murphys perform after their hockey game. It was a huge success. Would the Milwaukee Bucks do anything like that? Probably not.

The NBA has so much more control over what teams do as far as promotions. A minor league hockey team is not nearly as high profile as the NBA. With that being said, would Bucks Tickets sell at a faster pace if the NBA allowed the Bradley Center management to have a live band perform just after the game?

The Bucks are a small market team. Revenue streams of any kind should be explored. Not to mention, you could draw new Bucks fans if you match up the right bands to play live. Some say that it's not needed. If you ever go to an early season Bucks game, you might disagree. The seats are empty in the upper levels for games on weeknights. Why not have a band play after the game.

DropKick Murphys Perform At Milwaukee Admirals Game

I love it, but must admit that this is a strange twist. The Dropkick Murphys play at a Milwaukee Admirals hockey game on February 27th. The band plays right after the game. My coworker suggested that the band play before the game, as it would really fire up the crowd. The Milwaukee Admirals management has been cooking up some pretty cool promotional ideas. Perhaps the Marquette Basketball team should take a page from the Admirals.

If I were to have control of the Golden Eagles post game activities, I would start with a cage match between the biggest, baddest UWM student VS whatever Marquette student would volunteer to get pummelled. Marquette Basketball tickets would be flying out the door! Ok, I can't really confirm that just about every UWM student is tougher, cooler, and smarter than anybody at Marquette, but I'd put money on it.

Goo Goo dolls on ice

January 5th, The Goo Goo Dolls play before the Milwaukee Admirals game. This is a get-butts-in-the-seats promotion that the Bradley Center does at regular intervals. I think it works well. The Goo Goo dolls will be playing in front of kids that have never seen them before. The Bradley Center sets up a stage on one end most times, but since this show is before the game, one can wonder if they will set up the stage on center ice? Considering the way that The Milwaukee Bucks are playing, the Dolls could stick around for that game too?

Ghost town in Milwaukee next Thursday

My boss has to entertain friends this coming Thursday. He asked me to search all the larger local venues for something to do. I started with The Pabst Theater and worked my way down to Shank Hall. Nothing. If he was talking about a Friday night, there are plenty of things to do. They Might Be Giants are in town. The Music of Led Zeppelin performed by the MSO on Friday and The Wallflowers are in town on Saturday night. If you are touring the country, I guess Milwaukee is the last place you want to be on a Thursday night. Speaking as a touring musician (over the years), I wanted to be in large cities on those off nights. That increased your chances of a good crowd. Ok, I found something to do on Thursday. Get a Milwaukee Admirals ticket. They actually play Houston on Thursday.
