Kings of Leon Take a Break

Kings of Leon Milwaukee

I remember the first time that someone introduced me to the Kings of Leon. He told me that the shows at the Rave in Milwaukee were packed with "hot girls." His comment made me uncomfortable, seeing that we are both married, and I work with his wife. Still, this person does have a pretty good ear for music, so I gave the Kings a look and listen. The first article that I found online described a band that loves to party. They seemed to be pround of their drinking.

Fast forward to 2008, and I'm reading a Kings of Leon interview where their drummer states that they have renounced drugs and "figured out the formula." Not so fast Mr. Followill. The words you spoke do not match the reality that has now come to be. Yes, you said that the hard work you are putting in while you are young is going to enable you to party when you hit your 40's. Your brother had different ideas. The band now has to take a break, and hopefully figure out what to do about the drinking problems. It catches up with you before you know it. I'm not piling on the hate here, I'm just bringing up the past statements of a band that was out of control years ago. You can't just turn it off. It doesn't work that way. Will sobriety come to the brothers and the band? Will that sobriety change their music? That remains to be seen.

John Mayer and his devoted fan base

John Mayer tickets went on sale for the Marcus Amphitheater show over the weekend. I hear that his fan club had nabbed many of the tickets in advance. My sister-in-law loves John Mayer. She told me how upset she was that she couldn't get tickets to the show. Last year, Rolling Stone magazine had a feature story about the best rock and roll guitar players of the modern era. John Mayer was on the front cover. Needless to say, there were very unhappy fans of other guitar players who replied to Rolling Stone. They felt that John Mayer didn't deserve to be on the cover. I can't say what I think about John Mayer. I don't know any of his songs, nor do I care. John Mayer played Summerfest in previous years. His wide ranging fan base, and his apparently enormous fan club will sell this show out in no time.

John Mayer Summerfest show

John Mayer, the latest addition to the Summerfest line-up will perform on Tuesday 7/3/2007. He was just on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. Does he rate as one of the current greats when it comes to guitar players? Personally, I could find about 10 guitar players in Milwaukee alone that could dust him. But could those 10 guitar players draw as many teen-age girls as John Mayer? Hardly. A coworker of mine thinks he's very handsome. That tells you something; the first comment was about his looks, not his chops on guitar. July 3rd is a great date to play Summerfest. The fireworks, the crowds, the other bands that actually have great guitar players in their band all make for a cauldron of fun.
