Bon Jovi at Summerfest

A favorite for those who grew up in the 80's (see picture at right) is Bon Jovi. Now that those fans are nearing their late 30's and early 40's it's safe to say that Bon Jovi is reaching "oldies" status. No matter what they produce currently, I'm afraid that they aren't drawing new fans to their style. If that were the case, we would see their videos on MTV as opposed to VH1. (Example: Have A Nice Day Video) July 5th will be the date of Bon Jovi. I pray for cool weather since there will still be a few hairdos at The Marcus Amphitheater that require low humidity.

Morrissey coming to Milwaukee

The legend that is Morrissey will be at The Riverside Theater May 12th. I have to see this show. My friends have seen him perform and they all tell me it's high time I join them in an evening of angst, love, lust, and intrigue. The show is general admission and you know what that means, a push to the front of the stage the second that the doors open up. If I could recommend any Morrissey cd, it would be You Are The Quarry.

Roger Waters sold out

The first sold out show for Summerfest is Roger Waters. Imagine the sights and sounds that will be emanating from The Marcus Amphitheater that night. The demographic for that show runs from 20 to 60 year olds.
I hope the folks that book the music for Summerfest manage to land more musical acts that sell out the place! Roger Waters tickets moved very fast. I think that there were only bleacher tickets available after the first couple of minutes of the on-sale. The Summerfest ticket admission will get me close to the action that night. I'm still deciding which Summerfest shows I am going to go to.

The Fray at Summerfest

June 30th Milwaukee welcomes The Fray to Summerfest. They don't like to be compared to a Christian band such as Jars Of Clay, but hey, if the market wants to label you, then go with it. (kidding) Others think that The Fray is more like Coldplay. I have never heard the band so I cannot comment on this one. I have heard Coldplay. I hope The Fray isn't like coldplay. That's one band I just don't get.

So far, the Summerfest line up is rounding out nicely. Some country, some rock, some old, new, etc. Now bring on those often overlooked side stage show announcements for Summerfest.

Willie Nelson at The Pabst

On the road again....is Willie Nelson. He's here at The Pabst Theater on March 24th. A country music Icon to say the least. I think he's had that same guitar strap since 1976. He may have had tax troubles, weed issues and the like, but this guy is no polished country fake. You will only see this guy on GAC. So what's the deal, does he shave every other month? No matter, his music is what I dig. You better get down to see Willie Nelson before he retires.

John Mayer Summerfest show

John Mayer, the latest addition to the Summerfest line-up will perform on Tuesday 7/3/2007. He was just on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. Does he rate as one of the current greats when it comes to guitar players? Personally, I could find about 10 guitar players in Milwaukee alone that could dust him. But could those 10 guitar players draw as many teen-age girls as John Mayer? Hardly. A coworker of mine thinks he's very handsome. That tells you something; the first comment was about his looks, not his chops on guitar. July 3rd is a great date to play Summerfest. The fireworks, the crowds, the other bands that actually have great guitar players in their band all make for a cauldron of fun.

Harry Connick Jr. Milwaukee Theater

Harry Connick Jr. Milwaukee Theatre Friday, Apr 6th. Need I say that this man makes the ladies swoon? At least I know that my wife swoons over this guy. Actually, I have seen his show in previous years and Mr. Connick Jr. brings a really good band with him. Since my wife plays his CD's, I can certainly hear that he's got some vocal chops.

Jimmy Buffett a second entry

I cleared the date with my boss and I'm going to Jimmy Buffett at Alpine Valley on July 28th. It's going to be one long day for sure. I don't care if it takes three hours to get out of the parking lot after the show. Perhaps I could get a nap in to prepare for the drive home to Milwaukee. If you have ever seen Jimmy Buffett at Alpine Valley, you know it's a madhouse of fun.

See you there.

Roger Waters does Pink Floyd

On July 2nd, I'll be at Summerfest. I'll be going back in time to the 70's when I buy my ticket, sit and listen to Roger Waters playing Dark Side Of The Moon at Summerfest. He's going to play the entire album (yes album, not CD) during the second half of his set. I'm a bit too young to remember when the album came out, but it continues to sell to this day. I have a copy on my IPod, and I have my brother's scratchy album. I remember hearing that album while hanging out on the deck above our garage way back when. I think my parents let me say "bullsh*t" when I sang along, without being scolded. In fact I remember hearing it on AM radio without being bleeped. The Roger Waters show sold out in less than 1/2 hour, so I avoided the lawn seats and bought my tickets at Ticket King. That one was a no brainer. I'm not sitting in the hot setting sun, or the rain, or the wind if it's off the lake.

Summerfest show announced for June 30th

To quote another blogger "Ok Go and The Fray? Yes, I would like to (and have) seen them, but will they fill the Marcus on June 30?" This is the first iffy show for Summerfest. Saturday night at Summerfest will help, but it's going to be tough to fill The Marcus Amp with that line up.

For the kiddies

I'm a bit too old for this one, but they just made the cover of Rolling Stone. Fall Out Boy is coming to The Bradley Center in Milwaukee on May 17th. Are they worthy of a Bradley Center show? Are they that popular? Perhaps it's the music industry having high hopes of a successful tour. I don't think the upper level will have a single ticket holder for that show. Will The Bradley Center tap a keg for the chaperon that brings their 14 year old? Time will tell if this band is more than a blip on the radar.
