Jimmy Buffett Alpine Valley Tickets Went On Sale Today

Jimmy Buffett Alpine Valley tickets went on sale today. I'm not a fan. Really not a fan, but I do post about events that I would never attend. Jimmy Buffett can't really sing well, but he's got a fan base that cannot be ignored. His fans may get completely smashed, and act quite silly at his shows, but they can't be denied their right to have a great time. Who wouldn't like to sit on the beach?

Wisconsin is cold, and it snowed another four inches today, but we're just four months away from the Jimmmy Buffett show, if you are an interested fan, that is. From Cheeseburger in Paradise, to Margaritaville, his hits are all about one thing. Having a good time.

Phish coming to Alpine

Get out your whirling dervish dress, because Phish is coming to Alpine Valley this summer. They perform for two nights in East Troy, and they have a couple of other shows listed on their website. I would suspect that they will add dates as this brutal, never ending winter plods along. The Phish Alpine Valley shows are June 20th and 21st.

That is late enough in the summer where we can expect warm weather. I have gone to those early June shows at Alpine where it gets into the low 60's for the day and high 50's at night. That's a buzzkill.

Summerfest starts five days after that, so we're already in for a great summer.

It's 12 degrees outside right now, but in just five short months, it will be warm.

Alpine Valley

How does Alpine Valley stay in business? Alpine Valley holds nearly 36,000 people. There are VIP decks, lawn seating, and more. What is interesting to me is that there are so few shows each year. Sometimes, Alpine Valley may have only eight events for the entire summer. Half of those events might not sell out.

Live Nation has a great interactive venue map on their site. You can view seating charts, upcoming shows, and overhead maps.

Rumor has it that there is an undercover cop sitting on top of buildings in downtown East Troy. These guys look into people's cars and try to see if people have beer cans tucked in their laps.

These same guys will have someone on the street corner with a can in hand. They see a car pulling up to a stop light and tip their can as a toast. They hope to get the people in the car to reveal their cans and tip back. Then, those people are busted.

Other interesting traps would include the parking situation. If you think about it, there are not enough spaces for all the cars, if everyone came just two to a party. So if you show up late, you end up paying $25 to park in a farm field. Funny thing, the sign at the entrance to the farm lot may say $10, but once you get all the way to the person taking the money, it's $25 to park, and there is no way to turn around if you don't like the strong arm tactics.

So you paid $25 to park, you are a quarter mile from the venue, and you have your cooler full of beer. Don't even think about bringing it into the real lot. The border between private land and Alpine land is not marked. Some cops will give you a very friendly warning and let you know that you have to ditch the brew. Others may wait until you cross the line, and then give you a ticket.

So you are now in the venue and you are having a great time. The show ends, and now you are stuck in a massive traffic jam. You are joined by thousands of people from Wisconsin and Illinois, all trying to get the heck out of the woods.

I went to an Alpine show that ended at 11pm. It took 2.5 hours to get out of the lot, and another 45 minutes to drive the rest of the way back to Milwaukee. When I was a kid, my crappy Chevy overheated while waiting in line to get out of the parking lot. I paid $10 for a gallon of water and poured it into my radiator after the engine cooled down. Finally, after the hellish trip back home, I got busted for bringing my girlfriend home so late.

What do you want to take away from this? Don't drink and drive. Be ready to pay $25 to park in a field far, far away from the venue. Be careful when walking around with a can of beer. The most important thing to do is to leave before the final song. Give yourself a break and get out of there before the encore at least. Missing one or two songs will save you hours of headaches.

Jimmy Buffet on July 19th at Alpine Valley Wisconsin

Parrotheads unite! Has it been one whole year since Jimmy Buffett graced the stage at Alpine Valley in Wisconsin? They will gather in the parking lots. They will drink fruity drinks in his honor. Some will attempt to pace themselves in hopes of seeing only one Jimmy Buffett on stage at Alpine Valley. Double vision is a bad thing when it comes from all the rum you drank in the hot, hot sun of south-central Wisconsin. The pool, made from the back of a man's pick-up truck will surely be full of babes. The vomit will rise, but you must keep it down. Sun burned, rum soaked, and sweaty, you must file into the venue to bow down in parrothead unison. For your god is Jimmy Buffett. Your overlord sings just a tinge off-key, but no matter, he has more cash than the earth has ocean water. You relish the moment, with your espadrilles flecked with mud and grass, and your eyes squinting in the setting sun. Jimmy Buffett plays Alpine Valley July 19th 2008

Mars Volta the new disk, will they come to Milwaukee

Mars Volta comes out with a disk in late January. I don't think that they have the following to play an Alpine Vally type of venue, but I think that it would be great to see them in the open air on some hot summer night. Their prog styling lights it up. I would think that Mars Volta would play The Rave again, if they come to Milwaukee this year. The picture above is not Mars Volta, they are just some Rock and Roll band.

Favorite Venue in Milwaukee for shows

For those of you who have been to most of the larger venues in Milwaukee and S.E. Wisconsin, I present to you my list of venues and opinions.

Riverside Theater: I have sat all over that place and my favorite spots are center section, past the first six rows, and the first four rows in the balcony. Side sections ruin the show for me because you can see into the wings.

Milwaukee Theater: The first three sections in the center are great. The whole place is great!

Marcus Amphitheater: Trust me, move back beyond row N in the center and you will hear a better show. Side sections can be awful. Beyond the lawn, at the top can be cool too. Beer stands are up there.

Bradley Center: Skip that place unless you MUST see your all-time favorite band when they come to town. Can you say echo chamber?

Alpine Valley: Huge, it's huge, it's huge! But, if the weather is nice, the lawn can be just that. Sleep off the beers while everyone escapes the parking lot, and the show is much more fun.

The Rave: I haven't been there since 1998. I hope I never have to go there again. I used to play in that venue quite a bit, but as a paying customer, forget it. It's a trash bin.

Pabst Theater: Classy, old, but nice. I'd go there anytime for any show.

Wisconsin Music Man out.

Keith Urban at Bradley Center July 26th

Keith Urban's tour vehicles use bio-diesel fuel. That's very green. Keith Urban is GAC's artist of the month for July. Mr. Urban performed at Earth Live last Saturday. I wonder if Ted Nugent would have the stones to admit that the world is getting hotter? Keith Urban's set list from a past tour included: Once in a Lifetime Where the Blacktop Ends Faster Car/All Right Now Raining on Sunday (acoustic, solo) Shine Stupid Boy Walking in Memphis Better Half* Making Memories* You’ll Think of Me* I Told You So* Days Go By I Can’t Stop Loving You Used to the Pain Tonight I Want to Cry Who Wouldn’t Want to Be Me Somebody Like You.

Keith Urban will be seen and heard at Alpine Valley on July 26th. Don't let it be said that I don't cover the country music happenings.

Rage Against The Machine Alpine Valley Aug. 24th

Yes, it's true. Rage Against The Machine will be performing at Alpine Valley on August 24th.

My nephew is contemplating a flight from Seattle to East Troy, just to see them. My guess is that they will book a Seattle show too. Can you imagine the sounds of Know Your Enemy screaming loud, rolling across the hills of Alpine Valley? Yes, Rage is Alpine worthy. I await their arrival.

Nickelback at Alpine Valley

Nickelback will be dropping down to Alpine Valley, like a cold front from Canada on July 21st. It seems like the United States can only handle one Canadian band at a time. Staying power is what this band has in great supply. Their videos buck the super-fast cut, cut, cut trend, so they must be marketing towards the 30+ fan base. If you ever watch the Country Music Channel, you will see that their videos are much slower paced. Perhaps that's because those fans need the extra time to take in all those fancy lights and colors on the moving picture box. Don't get me wrong, I like the GAC videos that feature real country music. I'm way off track here. Nickelback's hit songs include Photograph and Leader of Men. When Nickelback was called out for having two songs that were nearly identical, Mike Kroeger replied "When you are a band that has a distinct style such as us or AC/DC, that happens." Excuse me Mike, you shouldn't put yourself on the same level as AC/DC in any way. AC/DC may have songs that sound the same, but they back it up with hits, fans, and rock that has lasted for decades.

Jimmy Buffett a second entry

I cleared the date with my boss and I'm going to Jimmy Buffett at Alpine Valley on July 28th. It's going to be one long day for sure. I don't care if it takes three hours to get out of the parking lot after the show. Perhaps I could get a nap in to prepare for the drive home to Milwaukee. If you have ever seen Jimmy Buffett at Alpine Valley, you know it's a madhouse of fun.

See you there.
